Best Home Security Companies: Which Is Best?

The best home security companies have much to offer.

Identity theft resources for the best home security companies.

It's important to be aware of the different options available and to be able to compare before you buy.

Using the best home security companies is so important for the protection of your house, loved ones and assets is top priority in this day and age.

Our economy has made this even more imperative.

  • Statistics show a home without a security system is 3 to 4 times more likely to be burglarized.

Arm yourself with more knowledge at home security statistics.

  • It is also a fact over 2 million burglaries occur every year, and 63% of those crimes happen in the daytime.

So, not only is it important to have an alarm system installed by one of the best home security companies and preferably a monitored one by a live service, but use your alarm and use it properly.

Many people have alarms installed and never turn them on, or only turn them on when they are not in the home.

For the ultimate in home security you should always set your alarm whether you are home or gone.

Don’t make it easy for a thief. The more “levels of layering” you have, the better your chances of discouraging a burglar.

The thief will find an easier and more accessible target.

It’s not enough to have just an alarm system.

Heavy duty dead bolts and proper lighting, inside and out, will be vital in reducing your odds of becoming a victim of identity theft along with having your home broken into.

To learn more about the importance of “levels of layering” go to do it yourself home security.

The next step is:

  • What are the best home security companies?
  • What are installation and equipment costs?
  • Do the companies have guarantees?

There are many home security companies to choose from, but it is best to arm yourself with some knowledge on which ones have a higher rating so you can make an informed decision.

Here are a few of the top rated companies and what they offer:

Best Home Security Companies Protect America

  • Protect America has 24 hour nationwide monitoring that is state–of-the-art equipment.
  • Protect America was rated #1 in 2009.

This certificate is proof you have a monitored security system to show your homeowners insurance company to gain a discount on your insurance.

Best Home Security Companies
ADT

ADT is one of the best home security companies and has been around for a long time.

At one time I had purchased ADT and found them to be very professional and had absolutely no problems with them.

They also responded very quickly to any emergencies.

ADT has many security plans that adapt to cellular or land line user, intruder and fire protection.

  • ADT – basic home security package for $299.00 plus monitoring fee of $34.00 a month.
  • Equipment includes a 3 point entry system, wireless touchpad, wireless keychain remote and motion detector.

Currently, ADT is offering a rebate on this package of $200.00. This would make the initial cost $99.00.

Most homeowners will probably require more entry point sensors and this would mean additional equipment costs.

Best Home Security Companies
Ingrid Home Security System

Ingrid home security has a higher upfront cost due to the equipment purchase, but is a hassle-free system without a 2-3 yr. long term contract and no sales pitch.

  • Basic package - $299.00 and includes 8 entry sensors, two keypads, and keychain remote.

You can purchase more equipment as needed. They also have a good selection of wireless options.

  • Monthly monitoring fee is $29.99.

If you don’t mind spending the $299.00 up front and don’t want that long term contract, consider Ingrid Home Security.

I feel the next two are an example of systems that are not considered the best home security companies.

Important Message:

Here are a couple of home security companies that are well known, but I feel may not be as customer-friendly for the items listed below. See what you think!

Brinks Home Security

Brinks is higher in price than many of the higher priced systems and do not have wireless installation. Many options that should be standard are charged for.

Brinks also charges for their own product warranty.

Prepare to have possible damage to wiring connections and walls because Brinks is hard wired.

  • Premium Plan – 3 sensors with motion detector and keypad, control panel, interior siren, decals and yard sign.
  • Installation starts at $155, and any additional sensors homeowners need are extra.
  • If you want to be monitored for carbon monoxide and fire, this is an extra monthly charge above your fee of $31.99.
  • You are required to set up auto-pay for your monitoring service on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  • Adding a warranty for your system will be an additional $6 per month.
  • If any equipment malfunctions or breaks and you don’t have the additional warranty, you will not be covered.
  • Upon research, I also found many complaints for false alarm problems that happened frequently
  • Charges from police departments and fire departments were not uncommon for the false alarms.

US Alarm

  • US Alarm has interactive monitoring that allows the homeowner to have access to what is happening at all times with messages sent to cell phones, emails that let you know alarms have be disengaged or your doors are open.
  • Equipment charges vary.
  • Monitoring charges are $33.99 a month.
  • Installation charges (optional).
  • You are also able to externally activate or deactivate your system.
  • Comes with a 3 month warranty. If the product malfunctions or stops functioning after that, you will be required to pay for the repair.
  • There are four packages, basic to advanced. Interactive monitoring is only available on the packages that are higher priced.
  • The standard number of sensors provided is minimal. Most people will choose to have a more expensive plan so they have access to a larger number of entry point sensors.
  • Upfront equipment costs are required on some plans.

US Alarm provides a good selection of equipment in which to protect your house, however,...

The one reason I didn't feel this was one of the best home security companies is:

  • You have to speak to a dealer that you have to locate, and invite this person to your home while he gives his sales pitch and tries to convince you to buy.

I won’t invite a sales person to my home to get this type of service.

The best home security companies provide information on their web site for their customers needs. I hope you find this information helpful in finding the home security company to suit your needs.
